I'm a freelance editor and writer specialising in health, medicine and science. I've worked in the health sector for over 20 years, providing editorial services for research organisations, learned publishers, charities and educators.
During that time I've worked on numerous science and health publications, ranging from academic journal articles and medical education modules through to patient information leaflets and annual reports.
My career started with a longstanding interest in biomedical sciences, which led to a first-class degree in biology and a Masters in public health. My first foray into editorial work was within academic publishing, where I honed my editorial skills and became well practised in publishing workflows and project management.
Since then, I've added in-house experience of health research communications and medical education to my editorial and writing skillset. Alongside this I have a thorough understanding of developing and applying written communication strategies and audience engagement.
Alongside valuable on-the-job experience in these roles, I'm professionally trained and a Professional member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading.
